Local News: LA Jury Deliberates BART Police Verdict (UPDATE)
Last week we did a story on the Johannes Mehserle case, the BART officer who shot and killed 22 yr. old Oscar Grant at an Oakland BART station while Grant was handcuffed, laying in cooperative position. Johannes claims he thought he pulled out his taser, which I feel was still unnecessary when a man is cuffed, laying on the ground. Well the verdict is in and the cop that I'm just gonna call a racist asshole is off the hook with involuntary manslaughter, which is only five years in California; literally, what a cop out. When does murder turn into involuntary manslaughter, just wondering? Oh yea', when it's a officer of the law being charged with the crime, I guess. The injustice in America is just to much for me. We only like to blog GUD news and this definitely sends a wrench through my stomach and a stake in my heart knowing this wasn't a accident. Then the system wonders why we live by the code, because obviously we live in two different worlds.
