Music: T.D.E. Disapproves New RIAA Certifications
Y esterday, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced their new certification guidelines. Unlike the good old days, where recording artist had to sell physical copies to be considered for any certification. The 58 year old trade organization modernized it's gold and platinum program, now including audio and video stream sales towards album certifications. With RIAA's new streaming certification rules, comes a new pack of leaders. Those included were Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise, The Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness and the 11 Grammy nominated to pimp a butterfly by Kendrick Lamar.
A platinum plaque is the greatest accolade to any musician's career. Kendrick Lamar is no stranger to the award, receiving his first platinum certification for good kid, m.A.A.d city in 2013. However, CEO of TDE, Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith doesn't seem to approve of the new rules, taking to his twitter to say,

As our modern world evolves through technology, we should expect more "ole skool rules" to modernize. Or maybe not. Modernizing may not always be the solution to moving forward. Speculations have been made the Grammy's certified Kendrick Lamar's to pimp a butterfly and the RIAA followed suit. The numbers do not lie, tracks from the record were listened to 9.6 million times on Spotify during its first day (Billboard).
