Ryan McGinness "#metadata" at KOHN GALLERY
Open now until April 22nd.
N ew York-based artist Ryan McGinness returns to Los Angeles for his sophomore solo exhibition, titled #metadata. The highly anticipated show will feature an experiential installation and new paintings from two important bodies of work – Studio Views and Screen Combines. The works highlight McGinness' vibrant, superflat geometric style, as seen in old Japanese paintings. #metadata will offer two separate bodies of work, “Studio Views” and “Screen Combines,” which will make one.
“Studio Views,” is a painting within a painting, placing the viewer in the artist's workplace. The installment will include sawhorses, silkscreens and paint buckets used in McGinness' creative process.“Screen Combines,” does away with all the tools and utensils and places them into the viewer’s personal space. Visitors must navigate through a head high maze of paintings made on the artist’s used silkscreens in order to locate his smaller painting studies.
Ryan McGinness' #metadata is open now through April 22nd at KOHN GALLERY. No need to worry if can't make it, we've included some photos below, courtesy of Hypebeast.
