S adly as Mother's Day approaches us, we have just been informed that the Mother of rap legend Tupac, Afeni Shakur has passed away at 69, due to a possible cardiac arrest.
Without ever meeting Afeni Shakur we all felt some type connection to the Mother of West Coast Rap legend Tupac as he scribed a heart-felt dedication to Afeni in "Dear Mama." The song resonated in urban communities being the first time a rapper has paid tribute to his mother through song.
Tupac spoke of highly of Afeni, who took over the rapper's estate when the rapper passed in 1996. Known for her active role in preserving her son's legacy, Afeni Shakur was an American music businesswoman founding the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, Amaru Entertainment, Makaveli Branded Clothing and Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. She was also a philanthropist, political activist and Former member of the Black Panther Party.
