Was J.Cole right?
We as a society have a internal problem within ourselves. We are insanely quick to wish some a RIP soon as we hear that a person of stature or celebrity dies without checking the facts first. We hold these same people to such a high standard, that we often confuse their talents with morals. In the end, we look up to these people for some kind of hope, or even worship, to find out they are just like us.
What happens is, we take this human being and make them larger than life by holding them to such a high regard that we are willing to support their talents – or lack thereof, religiously. defend them in arguments, and hang off their every word or what makes them amazing in our eyes hoping to someday walk in their footsteps. I too, am guilty of this.
But then it happens… A scandal. Our hero, the person we defended has done something so terribly wrong that it has rocked our souls and we are left in awe. Good God how could this happen!?! Let me tell you how....it's because they are normal humans beings that do un-average things. They live in a spotlight that we put them in and then we forget they breathe the same air us.
I've also had my share of heroes and one comes to mind right now by the name of Afrikka Bambaataa. If you haven't heard, the legendary Hip Hop pioneer has allegedly been involved in a child abuse scandal. The accusations not only made me sick to my stomach but obsessed with the story because of how much I pride myself on being apart of the hip-hop culture. So, hearing about one of the founders of the culture I pride myself on, was unbelievable. But guess what? It's my fault for putting – I guess – my faith into another human.
I honestly think 9 times out of 10 they just wanna be treated like humans, but then there are those that well, feel like they are next best thing to Jesus himself. And who are we to judge? I mean, you might not know everyine like you think you do. Your neighbor could be some…well you get my point.
Just remember We are all humans. Nothing more nothing less. We all are going to die one day so just enjoy people's talents and remember that we all have flaws. Nobody's morals are better than the next and check those facts before you tweet R.I.P
