Levi's Presents The 501® Documentary, A Look at the Jean's Influence on Pop Culture (Trailer)

"Mod and rockers, Beatle freaks, punks and skuncs, kooks and geeks…"

S an Francisco-based denim company, Levi's® has came a long way since its founding in 1853, by Levi Strauss. Seeing the turn of almost two centuries, Levi's® has been able to influence countercultures as broad as biker clubs, punk, rap, skateboarding, and art movements–coining the term "garment of the outlaw".

Presented in a three part documentary, The 501® Jean: Stories of an Original celebrates the 501® Jean’s influence on popular culture with interviews from Mark McNairy, Gary Burden, Lee Ranaldo and Los Angeles' Tri Co owner, Wil Thomas .

Levi's® will first trace the roots of the 501®, as the iconic silhouette begun as an utilitarian garment through the industrial revolution, all the way to the millennials who wear them today. The second installment, focuses on the look of the 501®, rather than function and how the denim has become a staple in the fashion industry. The last episode titled "Rebellion," highlights the attitude of the denim as it can be seen on crowds through decades of activism: from beats to hippies, LGBTQ rights protests, to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
