N early after two years of speculation and controversy, Zoe Saldana's contentious Nina Simone Biopic will finally be given some light come this Spring. Rumors were the R&B Queen Mary J. Blige would be starring the late songstress/civil rights activist but opted out due to a conflicting schedule. Many have speculated–including Saldana's daughter Lisa Simone Kelly–if Saldana should of been casted due to the extent Saldana would have to undergo to resemble the Nina Simone.

Ultimately, the uproar came when the film premiered almost two years ago at Cannes and  Zoe Saldana was on set wearing makeup to darken her face–better known as black face–and prosthetics to alter her nose. Saldana is of Dominican, Puerto Rican, Haitian and Lebanese descent while Simone took pleasure in expressing her African heritage.
