The Champ, Muhammad Ali Passes Away at 74
The Greatest of All Time.
It saddens us to announce that "The Greatest of All Time," Muhammad Ali has passed away at age 74, due to a 32-year battle with Parkinson's disease. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer passed yesterday evening after being hospitalized for several days.
Ali, born Cassius Clay, was more than a champion in the ring he was a champion at life. After learning the teachings of Islam and changing his name, Muhammad Ali was convicted of draft evasion and sentenced to five years in prison while also having to pay $10,000 in fines. Ali's argument, "I ain’t got no quarrel with those Vietcong,” was a rude awakening for the country as he empowered the sense of individualism and promoted an anti-war campaign. Although Ali had dodged prison through appeals, he was banned from boxing for a short time. Through his professional career he not only had to fight in the ring but also with oppression during the 60s.
